Review of Marriott Residence Inn in Durango, Colorado
In August 2005 we made a trip from Salt Lake City, Utah to Glenwood Springs, Colorado for a reunion.
Afterward, we decided to visit Mesa Verde National Park, and Four Corners before heading back to Salt Lake City.
We stayed two nights in Glenwood Springs and had a bad experience. We looked at the map and planned a fairly
easy drive to Durango to stage the next day's visit to the Park and Monument. When we arrived in Durango,
we made our customary single pass through town looking for a hotel which suited our fancy and almost
at the outskirt of town we ran across Marriott's Residence Inn. I've never stayed at this chain in the
past (mainly because my perception is that the cost is just too high for the benefit afforded). We decided
to give this one a shot, not wanting a repeat of our experience in Glenwood Springs.
Residence Inn had a vacancy, and our "off the street" rate was approximately $160 per night.
It was a bit more that I wanted to pay (I'm a cheap skate, what can I say... college for my kids
is more important than a mint on my pillow.) Anyway, we decided to stay the night.
The Hotel was attractive and clean on the outside and in the hallways. The pool area and
breakfast area were well kept and attractive. The staff was A+ (excellent customer service, polite,
informative, patient, I can't say enough nice things about these folks!) The room was excellent,
affording my wife and myself a seperate room from the children. Two televisions gave the kids the
opportunity to watch Cartoon Network and me the opportunity to channel surf incessantly as all
men must! (I say "must" because cable SUCKS!, 70 channels of shopping and commercials... AND some poor
sucker is actually -paying- for this "service"... it should be criminal... business DOES NOT LOOK OUT
FOR THE CONSUMER... buyer beware!)
And, (panning away from the ranting maniac...) the bed was the most comfortable bed I have
EVER slept on While a tad pricey, our stay at Residence Inn was the most pleasurable hotel experience
I can remember. I will stay at this particular establishment any time I pass through Durango, and I
am eager to try a Residence Inn at the next opportunity.
